Promoting Literacy Beyond the Classroom

The Heritage International School, Talanagri, Aligarh, celebrated the International Literacy Day 2026 on 08th September 2026 with fervour and a profound message for the pupils and the larger society.

The event stressed to kids that literacy involves much more than reading and writing. It is a vital tool which allows the individual to make sense of the world that they live in, to make educated choices, to communicate successfully and to act properly in society.

Students Participate in Literacy Awareness Activity

On the occasion of International Literacy Day, students engaged in an awareness activity on the importance of literacy in personal and social development.

The activity demonstrated how literacy allows people to comprehend information, notice key issues and make responsible choices. Students talked about the importance of awareness and education in making a society where people are better able to handle issues.

The pupils also accepted a promise to increase literacy awareness among others and work toward building a more informed, aware and responsible society.

Principal Highlights the Practical Meaning of Literacy

Addressing the kids, Principal Mr Munish Kumar Srivastava said literacy cannot be restricted to reading books, writing tests or getting academic knowledge.

He urged pupils to be mindful of their surroundings, current events and crises happening in society. “Being informed,” he said, “allows young people to recognise concerns and recognise when action may be necessary.”

Students were also taught to have the confidence and awareness to address the proper department, authority or concerned officer whenever an issue needs responsible response.

Turning Knowledge Into Responsible Action

The principal also told the children that the real literacy is to implement the knowledge in action.

A knowledgeable, well-informed person can analyse a situation, analyse available information, and make deliberate decisions. Literacy also enhances the ability to express oneself effectively and to respond properly to the demands of ordinary life.

With this view, students came to see that education has real purpose only when knowledge contributes constructively to one’s activities and to the community as well.
